Awareness Through Movement Classes and
Workshops In Awareness through Movement classes, students are actively learning about the habitual muscle tensions that may lead to restrictions, poor posture or injury. There are hundreds of lessons, each of which is carefully structured to release unwanted movement and postural habits, and teach more fluid, effortless and coordinated movement. Developing awareness of our movement is the key to modifying it, hence the name of the classes. Finding Space
Moshe Feldenkrais is quoted as saying, “My purpose is to allow people to move closer to actually being creatures of free choice, to genuinely reflect individual creativity and emotion, freeing the body of habitual tensions and wired-patterns of behaviour so that it may respond without inhibition to do what the person wants”. His aim was to free people from restrictive, habitual patterns of movement and thinking, allowing them more creativity and spontaneous action. This quote highlights the core intention of the Feldenkrais Method to foster greater freedom and self-awareness in both body and mind. By moving with ease, without tension or straining, we find space. This series of 5 Awareness Through Movement lessons will explore this concept of finding space for ourselves in our busy schedules, in our environment and importantly within ourselves. You will discover how it is to sense this freedom and space within your hip joints, your shoulders, your chest; in your breath; in your thinking and feeling.......and discover small ways that you come back to yourself as you go about your everyday activities.
